Bassetlaw triathletes have brought their summer season to a close
As the Summer slowly fades and the nights draw in three members of the Bassetlaw Triathlon club put their summer training to the tests in a range of events.

Making the trip to York, Shaz Burton took on the Sundowner Sprint triathlon. With a 750-meter open water swim, the 21km bike and 5km run on fast flat routes Shaz put in a sterling performance picking up a prize as second in her age category.
She said: “I finished 2nd in my AG yesterday 60-69 (1st in 65-69) and picked up a prize. I’m chuffed with my performance as had such a turbulent year. It was a great event and atmosphere. My swim was average, rode really well on the bike and ran the fastest split in my AG. All in all, a grand day out”
A little further south at Derby, club member Bethany Rossington was in her first ever event tackling the Deby Sprint event, comprising a 400-metre pool swim, 18km of undulating cycling and finally a 5km run.

Finally, Elise Nelson-Smith was racing her first middle distance triathlon at the Vitruvian based around Rutland water. Starting with a 1.9km open water swim of 2 laps in the sheltered creek on Rutland water. sheltered creek moving onto 89km of fast 3 lap cycling and ending with 21km run on a largely flat and scenic route near the lake.
Finishing in a time of 5 hours and 42 minutes Elise said: “So proud with myself. Hardest physical thing I’ve ever done. It was a great event, I was really nervous on the morning of the event as it was my first event of this distance, but I registered early and took my bike down the evening before to make it abit less overwhelming.
“The course itself was good, the 1900m swim was nice and the water was clean and surprisingly warm, the 90km bike leg was and enjoyable, and the half marathon run was a scenic run down to the church and back. Overall, I’m really pleased with my time and proud of myself, I’ll definitely be back to compete here again.”
