"The families of those involved are being supported, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

The Ministry of Justice confirmed that two prisoners died in custody in HMP Ranby on November 4, and said there are no other affected prisoners.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate, and we will respond to its findings in due course. There is also an ongoing police investigation, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
