Worksop man stalked ex-partner with emails, letters and demands for cash

A Worksop man who angrily flouted court orders by stalking his ex-partner with emails, letters and demands for cash has been spared a prison sentence, a court heard.

Martyn Ridley bombarded his victim with emails, and asked: “Do you think I am f****** stupid?” before turning up and barging into her home, said Jill McIlroy, prosecuting.

But after he returned a second time and tried to get inside he was arrested on August 3.

He admitted breaching a non-molestation order made on November 25, 2025, and his phone showed he’d sent 20 emails and called her 20 calls over the previous four days.

He demanded to “know the truth” and threatened to post about their issues on Facebook.

Ridley was on bail when he posted letters by hand on September 4 and 7, demanding a car back and claiming she owed him £32,000.

“I am scared of what he might do,” she said in a statement. “I just need him to stop. I feel like I am being punished for not wanting to be with him anymore.”

Ryan Higginbotham, mitigating, said Ridley, who has no previous convictions, took full responsibility for his actions, and there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

Being detained overnight by police demonstrated to him “how seriously breaches of these orders are taken," he said.

Ridley was wrongly advised by a solicitor friend but also showed “a degree of naivety,” Mr Higginbotham added.

The 43-year-old, of Back Park, Worksop, admitted stalking and breaching a non-molestation order, at Nottingham Magistrates Court.

On Wednesday, October 21, he received a 16-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, with probation requirements. A three-year restraining order was also imposed.
