“Neither side dominated until our first try just before half-time.”

“We were camped on our own try-line for the last few minutes of the half, but defended the pressure well.”

Three unconverted tries from scrum-half Will Machin, number 8 Daniel Price and flanker Richard Price secured the prestigious Notts Schools County Cup for Tuxford Academy.

The talented squad also reached the second round of the ‘Daily Mail Schools Cup’ in their first appearance in the competition.

They beat Lincoln Minster in the first round.

“In the past they have been knocked out of the semis – they’ve always been the nearly men.”

“To win in their final year is a credit to them.”

“They’ve stuck at it and encouraged other boys to get involved.”

The team have playing together as a team since year 7.

A school spokesperson told the Trader Guardian: “With the majority in their last year at school and winning the cup in their last match together for the school, it’s a brilliant send off for the boys.”

“We hope they continue playing and enjoy further sporting successes in the future.”
