Retford Swimming Club star Josh Stephenson-Ganner represented the Nova Centurion squad in the Irish Open last weekend.

The prestigious Long Course National Swimming Championships were hosted at the National Aquatics Centre, in world class facilities.

Live televised streaming and capacity crowds added to the 17-year-old’s experience as he competed against an international field.

In his strongest event, the 1500m freestyle he recorded a lifetime best of 16:23.52, knocking an impressive 17 seconds off his season’s personal best, earning fifth.

A time of 2:04.75 qualified him for a place in the 200m freestyle finals.

But it was in the little raced 800m freestyle that he recorded his biggest PB to finish in fourth place, in a time of 8:39.56, knocking 30 seconds off his existing time.

He finished off with 10th in the 400m freestyle.

Reflecting on his performance he said: “It was a sensational event – so friendly and for my first international meet I couldn’t have wished for a more positive experience.”
