Winter of change for Marshalls

Chairman David Andrews departed and was replaced by Stuart Spriggens, and his new vice chairman Stuart Morley.

On the field of play, captain Paul van den Huevel has stepped down from his role and Gary Andrews has taken over, along with vice captain Jamie Alderson.

The firsts will be looking to consolidate their position in the Bassetlaw Championship.

Eighteen-year-old Sam Carlon is the club’s overseas player for the season, a batting all-rounder with over 50 senior matches to his name for the Macquarie Hotel Cricket Club, in Northern New South Wales’ Hastings River District Cricket Association.

A club spokesman welcomed the youngster to the Gainsborough outfit, telling the Standard: “He’s a technically sound top-order batsman and brisk medium-pacer.”

“Sam has established himself in Macquarie’s first-grade side in recent seasons.”

Ian Brooks leads the second team once again and is looking for promotion with his young squad.

The thirds, playing in Lincoln League Two, will be captained by Adam Turver – after Darren Andrews led them to promotion last season.

New players to the club include Ian Elliott, a former Lea Park wicketkeeper, and Matthew Snee, who has returned to the club after a spell with Lincs Premier League club Messingham.

The firsts travel to Kiveton Park on Saturday, while the seconds host Clumber Park II.

Marshalls’ main shirt sponsor for 2012 will be Howden Joinery Company.
