Weather hampers locals

THE weather once again played a significant part in the weekend fixtures for Gainsborough area teams in the Bassetlaw Cricket League.

The irony was that, despite Saturday being a mainly sunny day, heavy rain on the Friday had rendered many pitches unplayable.

This was the case at Middlefield Lane where Marshalls firsts had to call off their Championship fixture against Ordsall Bridon, while North Wheatley with Leverton firsts suffered the same fate away to West Indian Cavaliers.

But there was better news in Division One as Wiseton’s home match against Caythorpe II went ahead and the hosts posted an empressive 106-run victory with Mike White the Man of the Match, scoring 41 and then taking five wickets for 24 runs.

Everton were also able to play their home fixture against Welbeck II and they recorded a narrow two-wicket victory.

Fine bowling from Jom Mimms (4 for 37), Dan Leach (3 for 18) and Jon Shaw (3 for 50) skittled the visitors out for 125, but it was a close call for Everton as 37 from Dan Brighton helped see them home.

In Division Two Lea Park were unable to play their match at Milton.

Marshalls IIregained their self esteem in Division Four after last week’s humiliating show as they travelled to Whitwell IIs and came away with a 20-run victory.

Ian Elliott scored a fine 72 as the Gainsborough side made 143, and then three wickets from A. Aluramamthan helped them to a morale boosting win.

The local derby between Rose Leisure and Everton II was cancelled as the North Warren Road ground was unfit for play.

North Wheatley with Leverton II had a crushing 10-wicket home victory over Milton II in Division Five.

But Misterton’s match at Teversal II was another match that succumbed to the ground conditions, as was Wiseton II’s away fixture at Thurcroft in Division Six.
