Beckingham bowlers clinch wins over Marton and Sports

Beckingham Bowls Club’s Gainsborough Standard Bowls League team have progressed to the next round of the Hazel Lawrence Trophy, with an 80-50 victory at Marton.

They also won their league fixture two days earlier at home to Marshall Sports by 104 shots to 57, to take eight of the 10 league points available.

It was a different story for the village’s Isle of Axholme Evening League team, on 14th June at Haxey, when they won just one rink, losing 8-2.

In the I of A Pensioners’ League on 11 June, the Northern players maintained recent form to win at home to Rose A, taking four of the six points, but in the Central Section, Beckingham lost both rinks away to a strong Marsall A team.

Conditions for Beckingham’s Anniversary Triples on 16th June were ideal for the 20 teams competing, and it was a good day for Misterton and Owston Ferry players.

The winning trio were Dorothy Moyes and John Hunt from Misterton along with Beckingham’s ‘lone ranger’ Clive Hunter, who beat Chubby Clarke of Owston Ferry and Freda and Jim Allsopp from Misterton in the final.

Third place went to Owston Ferry’s Wilf Boothman and Margaret and Lou Ducker.

The club would like to thank all who participated, and also Audrey Rogers and John Wilson for their organisation, Shirley Wilson and her helpers for food, and the ground staff for their hard work in preparing the green.

The club’s Gala Day takes place on 21st July, with the Beckingham Open Pairs the highlight.

The competition will feature 28 pairs, and places, at £5 per player, are still available.
