Worksop: County Council launch new free snack packs for Town’s children this summer

Notts County Council has teamed up with BCVS Bassetlaw Food Bank, Nottinghamshire Children, Families Partnership and local food producers to provide the packs from Monday, August 4 to Monday, September 1.

The County Council and other agencies who provide services for children, young people and families meet regularly and have identified that many families rely on food banks in the area with around 6,000 children across Nottinghamshire benefiting from them.

Councillor Liz Plant, Committee Vice-Chairman for Children’s and Young People’s Services at Notts County Council, said: “This summer is the first time we have offered this service. This could provide important nutritional benefits for many children during the summer holidays so we hope families will find the scheme useful.

“It is also an example of excellent partnership working between a number of organisations, volunteers, the local community and local businesses.”

The snack packs will consist of a sandwich, fruit, a cereal bar and drink and families can collect the packs from Bassetlaw Food Bank, Lowtown Street, Manton Children’s Centre, Prospect Kilton Children’s Centre and West Bassetlaw Children’s Centre between 11.30am and 12.30am each weekday.

It is thought that an estimated 725 children, aged between four and 16 in the area, qualify for the free snack packs initiative this summer.
