Carlos Carvalhal is expected to rotate his side at the Riverside Stadium this Sunday as Wednesday bid to maintain their five-match unbeaten streak.

Joe Wildsmith, Jose Semedo, David Jones, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao are in contention to start against a Boro side who are languishing in the lower reaches of the top-flight.

“The Championship is the most important thing and there’s no doubt about that,” Sasso told The Star. “But the cup can give us good confidence.

“We obviously will go to Middlesbrough to win. We have to be aggressive and try to play our best. We are going to give it our best to get through.”

Despite their tired-looking performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sasso was pleased the Owls picked up another point in the club’s quest to secure a top-six finish. Wednesday still occupy the final play-off position following back-to-back draws with Preston North End and Wolves.

Sasso conceded: “It is really hard with only one day’s recovery. The holiday period is good for the fans but it is tough for the players but that’s just how it is in England.

“We know there is much more to come and we can only get better in the second half of the season.”
