Retford company that promotes workplace safety backs UK Small Business Week
A Retford business is backing UK Small Business Week after building a specialist consultancy that helps businesses improve workplace safety, compliance and employee wellbeing.
Health Life and Safety Ltd, led by Lee Smith, is supporting UK Small Business Week (https://entrepreneurscircle.org/sbw/), the nationwide initiative launched by entrepreneur Nigel Botterill and backed by Entrepreneurs Circle to recognise the contribution small firms make to local communities and the wider economy.
The Retford company works with businesses across multiple sectors, helping organisations improve health and safety standards, reduce risk and create safer working environments for employees.
Lee Smith said smaller specialist businesses often provide practical expertise and support that companies may otherwise struggle to access.

“Good health and safety is not about paperwork for the sake of it,” he said.
“It’s about protecting people properly, helping businesses operate responsibly and creating safer workplaces for everyone.”
The company has continued growing despite wider economic pressures affecting SMEs across the UK.
Lee said independent businesses often succeed because they build strong relationships and trust with clients over time.

“When you’re a smaller business, your reputation matters enormously because people are buying into your expertise and reliability directly,” he said.
“That personal accountability is one of the strengths of independent firms.”
Lee believes campaigns like UK Small Business Week are important because they recognise the contribution smaller firms make behind the scenes of the wider economy.
“Small businesses provide expertise, services and employment that many larger organisations rely on every day,” he said.
“That contribution deserves recognition.
“People buy from people. Behind every great small business is a real person worth supporting.”
Nigel Botterill, founder of UK Small Business Week and Entrepreneurs Circle, said: “Small businesses are the backbone of Britain, but too often they’re taken for granted.
“These are the firms creating jobs, supporting communities and keeping local economies alive. UK Small Business Week is about recognising the people behind those businesses and giving them the spotlight they deserve.”
UK Small Business Week runs from June 1-7, and will see businesses across the country taking part in local events, social media activity and community campaigns celebrating independent firms and entrepreneurship.
