Anston Hillcrest was presented with a cheque for £100 by Coun Judy Dalton, which has been spent on flower-shaped chalk boards for children to showcase their creativity.

Pre-school manager Ann Field said that staff were thrilled to receive the grant, particularly in the difficult economic climate.

She added: “The council was great in sorting it all out, Judy approached us with a load of forms to fill in, and in the end it all came through.”

“We’ve been able to do bits in the past through community grants, but never finish the work.”

“This has allowed us to put the chalk boards up and soften the metal fence a bit, and the kids are really enjoying the new equipment.”

She added that parents’ comments had been overwhelmingly positive, and that staff were constantly looking to make improvements.

Anston Hillcrest Pre-school is open for 8.45am - 11.45am during term time, and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Funded places will be available from the start of the next academic year.
