Brightening up the boards

It has suddenly got a lot brighter around Maltby Academy.

Construction work has been taking place in and around the academy as part of an £11million building project.

And students have been making the most of the additional hoardings around the school, using them to brush up their art skills.

The academy has an artist in residence, Pete Barber from Urban Canvas, on site for several weeks working with the art department and around the school.

He is working with small groups of Year 12 art pupils, who are taking part in workshops which involve painting the hoardings around the school.

BAM construction, which is doing the building work, has sponsored the resources for the project.

Wayne Fallon, head of art at Maltby Academy, said it is a great time for art students at the school.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to work with the inspirational Urban Canvas and have the opportunity to showcase their work on the hoardings put up by BAM.”
