At its height, eight fire crews, including an appliance from Maltby, were tackling the blaze after the alarm was raised at 6am on Wednesday, 23rd October.

A South Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said: “The fire was only in that one tower but it was full of tar and oil substances which were highly flamable.”

“However, it was contained to the one area and all on-site staff were evacuated and there were no reports of any injuries.”

The fire was fully out by the end of the morning and two appliances remained on site into the afternoon to carry out damping down procedures.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze has begun, although the significant damage to the tower may make full investigation of the site too dangerous at this time.
