Alfreton’s Denton makes big impact for Worksop

TOM Denton has become an instant fan favourite for Worksop Town after just two games of his loan period.

The 6ft 5ins striker, loaned to Tigers by Conference side Alfreton Town, has put in two robust performances and scored in each of his appearances.

Saturday’s header from a narrow angle was followed by a classy sidefoot finish on Tuesday night at Hednesford.

The 23-year-old former Huddersfield forward has given Worksop a lift with his ability to hold the ball up, and his aerial threat.

And he told the Guardian he’s not just a ‘big lump up front’.

“I like to think I can play a bit, I can get it into my feet and bring others into the play,” he said.

“It was going well at Alfreton, but I got sent off in the third game and the manager asked me if I wanted to go out on a month’s loan to get some fitness.”

“So that’s what I want to do really, score goals and get fit.”

Man of the Match on Saturday, and a real handful for Hednesford Town defenders on Tuesday, Denton’s performances were lauded by Tigers boss Simon Clark.

The manager said: “We’ve got a number nine who is and plays like a number nine, he gives us options.”

“He gives us good areas to play and set up and he’s great in both boxes.”
