Fine start to the season continues

North Wheatley with Leverton continued their fine start to the season in the Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship, with a 54-run victory over Retford on Saturday.

Jamie Sizer (44*) and Richard Robinson (33) helped them to 162 for 8, before Sizer (5 for 43) and James Watmough (3 for 15) skittled Retford for 108.

In Division One Everton easily beat visitors West Indian Cavaliers, bowling them out for 133, Henry Eldred taking 5 for 47 and Jon Shaw 3 for 47, before a fine unbeaten 71 by Jon Mimms helped the hosts to an eight-wicket victory.

But it wasn’t such good news for Wiseton who fell to a heavy defeat at home to Caythorpe II.

The hosts were all out for 76 and Caythorpe passed that total for the loss of just two wickets.

In Division Three Lea Park posted another win at home to Mansfield and Pleasley II, scoring 180 for 9 and then bowling the visitors out for 59 to record a 121-run victory.

There were mixed results for the Gainsborough area teams in Division Four.

North Wheatley with Leverton II completed a good day for the club when they beat Notts and Arnold Amateur III by 57 runs, scoring 148 for 3 and then bowling their opponents out for just 57.

Everton II managed a losing draw at Blidworth II, the hosts scoring 239 for 7 and Everton were hanging on at 122 for 7 at the close.

Rose Leisure went down to a heavy defeat at home to Woodsetts, the visitors scoring 218 for 5 before bowling Roses out for 54.

Marshalls’ match at Clay Cross Works was called off as the ground was unfit.

In Division Five Misterton came away from Mansfield Hosiery Mills III with a fine 160-run victory, scoring 239 for 6 before dismissing their hosts for 79.

Wiseton II earned their first win of the season in Division Six, beating hosts Woodsetts II by the narrow margin of eight runs.
