Worksop: Charity cyclists complete 250-mile tour of East Midlands

Over 30 intrepid cyclists from The Nottingham building society took to the roads of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to complete a 250-mile ride in aid of the homeless charity Framework.

The ride started from the Worksop branch of the Nottingham and visited the entire branch network, calling in at Cleethorpes, Skegness, Grantham, Northampton, Leicester and Loughborough, before a colourful finish back at the society’s Nottingham headquarters.

The event was the second of the society’s annual Bike It Challenge rides in partnership with professional racing outfit Team Raleigh, who are sponsored by The Nottingham.

To help the amateurs, the professional team had one of their riders lead them out on the first and final days of the ride.

“It was a fantastic experience and everybody who started out made it to the end, which was great,” said spokesman Neil Skinner.

“The only really tough day was the Tuesday when they encountered very stong winds and rain.”

“Otherwise, the ride went really well and it was great to see such a cross-section of staff taking part, from the chief executive to counter staff.”

A final total of money raised will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
