Welcome back toYoung Americans

Kids of all ages had hours of fun learning music and dance routines alongside the 46 American visitors.

They built up their skills and confidence for a performance in front of parents at the end of the week.

“The final performance saw 100 of our students perform a medley of songs with the Young Americans, from the Beatles to Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley to Elton John,” said John Cawdell, TVA’s director of business and resources.

“The dance routines included a number of spectacular sporting events where the novices conquered much larger competition.”

The Young Americans are a touring group of 18 to 24-year-olds who travel across the United States, and the world, participating in home stays where they perform.

It was their seventh visit to the school, having done their first workshop in Gainsborough in 2001. And the enthusiasm they are greeted with has not faded.

Chloe Bridge organised the visit on behalf of TVA. She said: “Anyone who saw the final performance will have been blown away with how our students were inspired to deliver such a high quality production.”

“The Young Americans have been visiting Trent Valley Academy for a number of years and have made a significant contribution to the self belief and aspirations of our students”.

She also thanked the local host families who provided accommodation for the group during their stay.

The Young Americans were founded 50 years ago to promote music and dance along with enthusiasm and optimism to make the world a better place.

They have no religious or political affiliations, working with schools to generate self confidence, team work and understanding.
