Tickhill: MP joins protest against HSBC branch closure

Caroline Flint, local town councillors and residents voice their concern about the loss of Tickhills last bank.

The HSBC branch is due for closure on 24th April.

Caroline said: “As soon as I was contacted by HSBC about the branch closure I contacted the bank to seek a meeting with the regional manager.”

“This HSBC branch is the last in Tickhill, which at one time had three local bank branches.”

“This is a big blow to local businesses and to residents, including M&S customers and First Direct customers who both use HSBC. Even in the 21st century banks have to be more than call centres and internet banking.”

“Local retailers need a local branch to pay in cash and draw out floats for their weekly float.”

“The local post office will only handle limited transactions, and frankly, to tell loyal HSBC customers that they can go seven miles to Doncaster, or to Wickersley or Dinnington is an insult.”

“I hope HSBC will review this decision and not leave Tickhill without a local bank.”

Tickhill Town Councillor and Mayor, Ray Hill, said: “This has been my bank since I was an 18-year-old apprentice.”

“There are many people who have grown up in Tickhill who have used this branch for years so I was very shocked.”

“Loyalty doesn’t seem to count for much nowadays.”

“Even if HSBC suggested moving to part-time hours, that would be something. But to be told to go to Doncaster or Rotherham is a big disappointment.”

“It is obvious to us that other people come in to Tickhill do their banking, then use the cafes and shops and we will lose that.”
