New 'positive post boxes' launching across Bassetlaw for Mental Health Awareness Week

In a heartwarming initiative to foster connection and support, charity In Sam's Name is set to launch ‘Positive Post Boxes’ in Bassetlaw leading up to and throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, which takes place from May 11-17.

The locally-designed post boxes will serve as conduits of kindness, allowing local residents to anonymously share messages of hope, personal advice, and support.

To make these boxes as vibrant and welcoming as possible, In Sam's Name are looking for creative individuals to help paint and decorate the post boxes before they are placed on display.

A free painting workshop will be held for volunteers to get involved in the creative process atThe Edge in Worksop on Friday, May 1 between 6pm and 8pm.

All materials will be provided and no prior experience is necessary – just a passion for community and creativity.

All are welcome but there are limited spaces available.

Once decorated, these boxes will be placed in venues across Bassetlaw to allow the public to drop off their anonymous messages.

In Sam's Name is currently seeking businesses, cafes, and workplaces interested in hosting a post box on their premises.

Rachel Wood, Trustee of In Sam's Name, said: “This is a simple, effective way for local establishments to show their commitment to mental health awareness and help build a stronger, more supportive Bassetlaw.”

The initiative will then culminate in a special exhibition.

All messages collected from the ‘positive post boxes’ will be curated and showcased, creating a powerful, community-sourced display of solidarity.

The exhibition will aim to demonstrate that no-one in Bassetlaw is alone in their journey and that hope can be found in the shared experiences of neighbours.

Rachel continued: “This project is about turning our collective experiences into a source of strength for others.

"By simply sharing a small note, you could be the reason someone else feels a little brighter today."

All information about the project, including booking forms and contact details, can be found by visiting insamsname.org

Rachel added: “The ‘positive post boxes’ campaign is dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health by encouraging open, anonymous communication.

“By placing these boxes in the heart of our community, we hope to create a ripple effect of positivity that reminds every resident of Bassetlaw that they are seen, heard, and supported.”
