It’s been just over two years since I joined the team at West Bassetlaw as the Neighbourhood Inspector. This week’s column will be my last.

Having been successful in the latest round of promotions I am to take up a new role in the City of Nottingham as Chief Inspector of Operations.

While I am excited about the new challenges ahead I am sad to be leaving such a spirited and dedicated team of people and partners who really care about the public they serve.

My family and I live in Bassetlaw, we love it here. I feel very lucky to have been able to serve my own community.

Once my successor is decided upon I will be leaving for pastures new. I wish him or her all the best. It’s a demanding role, but it is one of the most satisfying I have had so far.

As a parting gesture I’d like to encourage parents to support their children in applying to join the force as a Police Cadet.

Cadets will be aged between 16 and 18 and expected to volunteer four hours a month to help officers at public events and deliver crime prevention initiatives.

The initiative will be launched at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham at 7pm on 15th May. Applications will be accepted from 20th May.

Of the 90 Cadets, there will be 15 selected directly from Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood. Let’s make sure Bassetlaw is well represented. To book your place at the launch, or for more information call 101, extension 800 3474.
