1092 – Lincoln Cathedral is consecrated;

1860 – Peter Pan author JM Barrie is born. He died in 1937, aged 77;

1870 – Golfer Harry Vardon is born. He died in 1937 aged 66;

1874 – Archaeologist Harry Carter, who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in Egypt, is born, He died in 1939, aged 64;

1912 – The sewage works on Bath Lane, Mansfield, were officially opened by the 6th Duke of Portland;

1930 – Carry On actress Joan Sims is born. She died in 2001, aged 71;

1935 - Mr Men author Roger Hargreaves was born. He died in 1988, aged 53;

1941 – German submarine U-110 is captured by the Royal Navy. On board is the latest Enigma machine which Allied cryptographers later use to break coded German messages;

1965 – Bob Dylan played this first of two-sold out nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall - The Beatles were in the audience;

1981 – Adam and the Ants were at number one on the UK singles chart with Stand and Deliver;

1987 – Mansfield Town ended the Division Three season with a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham in front of 2,761 fans, to finish 10th in the table.

2013 – British Olympic gold medal-winning sailor Andrew Simpson died when his boat capsized.
