MP visits for speed campaign

Headteacher Julie Jenkinson and school council members joined Caroline Flint to show their views about traffic speed

Ms Flint is calling for limits to be lowered outside the borough’s schools in a bid to safeguard youngsters on their way to and from the classroom.

She answered questions for 45 minutes at the school assembly before being shown round the classes.

Ms Flint’s tour finished with a science lesson setting off paper rockets.

Caroline said: “At the end of the visit, Mrs Jenkinson and the school council were keen to show me how fast the cars travel near their school.”

“At one entrance, the Doncaster Road is 40mph and vehicles swoop downhill.”

“At the other entrance lorries come from under a railway bridge past the school entrance.”

“It makes good sense to reduce the speed limit near Bawtry Mayflower and I can see why both the school and the town council supports this.”

She added: “Bawtry Mayflower is a lovely school – and the pupils and staff enjoy really interesting lessons. Mrs Jenkinson has established a really popular school.
