Man assaulted on Heapham Road early on Sunday

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted on Heapham Road in Gainsborough on Sunday.

The male had walked past Cox’s fish and chip shop between 12.30am and 1.15am when he was approached from behind by a young male with dark hair. The young male then hit the man causing him to fall.

When he came round he spoke to a group of young people who asked if he was okay and indicated they knew who the offender was.

Police are appealing to the young people who tried to help the victim to contact them.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything around that time, or who may have CCTV which might have captured images of the victim or offender.

The victim has also lost his mobile phone - a Sony Xperia - which may have been stolen in the assault.
