David Prescott, 44, from Saxilby, is standing in 2015 general election in May as the Labour candidate for Gainsborough MP and he is successful he will take over from Sir Edward Leigh who has been the MP for the town for 32 years.

David thinks Gainsborough is ready for change.

He said: “Gainsborough is crying out for change but people think because it’s always been seen as safe Tory seat, it won’t happen.”

“But I offer myself as a fresh start for the town. Someone who’ll roll up his sleeves and work with the other parties, businesses, schools and the third sector to get things moving. I want to build a team and that’s why I really want people to email me thoughts on how we can improve the town.”

“The town really needs a champion. I feel a bit like Rocky taking on the reigning title holder. I’m going to give it my best shot so Gainsborough can become a great place to work, live and play.”

“And if people really want change, I’m here to give it them. And of course, Rocky eventually won.”

David is an ex-journalist and wanted to do politics as a passion not a profession and was determined to build his own career.

He said: “I’ve been involved in politics since I was a boy.”

“I delivered my first leaflet in the 1974 General Election when I was four-years-old. But I think it’s very important that we have people in politics with real life experience.”

“I was a Labour party member since I was 17 but I got involved on my own terms.”

David intends to put Gainsborough at the heart of his campaign as he sees great potential for the town.

He said: “It needs the right person to unlock it.”

“This town will double in size over the next 20 years with 10,000 new homes.”

“And yet Gainsborough Central only has a Saturday service to Sheffield and Grimsby?”

“If we want to encourage jobs and investment to this area, we need better transport services.”

“Not everyone can afford a car so if we could get a six day a week service on the Brigg line, it would mean they could commute to the Humber region, where they’re creating thousands of jobs in the renewable sector.”

“In return, workers on the South Bank could relocate to Gainsborough.”

“I’d like people to email me with their thoughts on how we can make Gainsborough a great place to live, work and play.”
