The Legion has met at the club on Barleycroft Lane for the last 40 years.

But now, the owners of the club are proposing to sell it for redevelopment.

And as a result, the club has now had to relocate to a new headquarters at the Silverdale Club in Dinnington.

“We have been fortunate to be able to hold our meetings at the Dnipro Ukraine Club since the 1970s,” said branch chairman David Summerbell.

“The Ukraine Association managed it back then.”

“They joined in many of our functions and also invited us to many of theirs.”

“They sadly sold the club just after the turn of the century.”

“Since then, it has changed hands a few times but we were sill allowed use of the club.”

“In the last few years, the club was run by Brian Turner, Linda Holland and Jill and they made us feel very welcome.”

“But now the owner is selling he club for redevelopment.”

“And with that happening, we feel it is now time to call it a day as far as being based there is concerned.”

“On behalf of the branch committee and members, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their hospitality and generosity over the years.”

“But now it is time to say farewell and move on to our new headquarters.”

The first meeting of the branch in their new headquarters will be next Wednesday (27th August) at the Silverdale Club on Lordens Hill.

The next major event for the Legion will be the Kiveton & Wales World War I Commemoration Day on Saturday, 6th September at the Kiveton & Wales Village Hall from 10am.

Presented by Kiveton and Wales History Society aided by Harthill and Todwick History Societies, there will be a re-enactment of the Enlistment of men in St John’s Hall at 3.30pm followed by a re-enactment of the parade to The Saxon.
