Dinnington: Heartfelt appeal to save Tony’s life

Parents, friends and supporters of Dinnington Town Rugby Union Club have made a heartfelt appeal to try and save the life of one its members.

Tony Cummings, 53, whose son plays for the club’s under 14’s team, has Leukaemia and needs a bone marrow transplant urgently.

Tracy Silkstone, whose husband is the coach of the under 14s team, said: “Tony is exactly the sort of parent you want at your club.”

“He is such a loveable and likeable man, he is always talking to the opposition parents and making everyone laugh.”

“He has had some tests and some treatments and has been in and out of hospital for a while.”

“Unfortunately if we do not find him a match within 12 months then it could be terminal.”

Close friends have set-up a Facebook page called ‘Save Tony’ to try and find him a match which could save his life.

One post on the social networking site said: “Great guy Tony Cummings, a member of our rugby family has leukaemia and URGENTLY needs a bone marrow transplant to SAVE HIS LIFE! Tony is mixed race, are you? If you are, we are pleading to you to get tested and see if you are a match for him.”

Matthew-Shireen Green posted: “This is the easiest yet one of the most important things I have ever done...go to www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk register your details online, they send you a swab kit in the post, you rub it on the inside of your cheek, put it in the envelope and post it back free!! Then you wait for the phone call that asks you to save a life...simple!!”

Tony, who lives in Beighton, has been a member at the rugby club for around three years and instantly became a popular character at the club.

Tracy added: “Our club is like a family, we are avery close knit bunch of people.”

“Please get in touch, get yourself tested and help save Tony’s life.”

Liesl Lilly Lawrence posted:”Good Luck Tony xxx.”

Hollie Livermore said:”I’ve just signed upto it but I hope you find someone soon.”

Janet Jackson wrote: “please people wherever you are in the world...you can make a difference to this families life....amazing people...love them lots...lets do this xxxx”
