Nicola Whall, 47, told how the unknown male laughed as he launched the partly-consumed sandwich at her car.

The filling splattered all over her Vauxhall Vectra’s car window and upholstery as well as her coat, hair and glasses - even running down her back and under her clothing.

Mother-of-two Nicola, who works as a caterer at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, was buying food for her 74-year-old mother - whose husband has a heart condition - at the time.

The sick prank unfolded in the High Grounds Road Supermarket car park on Sunday at about 2.45pm.

Nicola said after flinging the disgusting missile, her assailant - who she described as aged in his 20s with mouse-coloured blonde hair and driving a white pick-up truck - sped off.

She said: “I was that shocked and mad - normally I would have spun round and gone after him but I was just in shock.

“I just thought ‘he’s had his mouth round that sandwich and could have anything’.

“With things as they are at the moment with coronavirus it’s just scary - it stank as well and was just disgusting.”

Nicola told how her daughter had a five-month-old baby and the two both lived with her at her home.

She said her biggest fear was passing an infection she might be carrying onto her loved ones.

She added: “I was fuming to be honest - I work at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and I’m putting myself and my family at risk every day.

“It’s bad enough that I’m working at a hospital putting my daughter and her baby at risk - I don’t need some idiot putting them at risk as well.

“These young idiots don’t seem to care or realise the severity of what’s happening at the moment.

“I just want other people to be vigilant and not leave their car windows open.”
