Beckingham: Cash boost for a new roof for Beckingham Village Hall

The Beckingham Village Hall Committee has been awarded a £60,000 grant to replace the roof and update the building.

The money has been awarded by Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN), a not for profit business that awards grants to community projects from funds which are donated by the FCC Environment to the Landfill Communities Fund.

On Thursday 23rd July builders are set to start work at the village hall by first removing the old roof and replacing it with a new truss and tile solution.

When the work is complete it will give the hall a new modern look.

Project Manager for Beckingham Village Hall, Kevin Senior, said: “We wanted to give the village hall a modern and more useable look that the villagers will want to use for another 100 years.”

The group approached WREN after carrying out consultation within the the local community which included handing out over 500 surveys.

The building work will be undertaken by Jupp-Foard Contractors and will take around six weeks to complete.

Managing Director of WREN, Peter Cox, said: “WREN makes a difference to people’s lives by awarding grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK.”

“We are delighted to support Beckingham Village Hall committee and their valuable work.”

WREN was established in 1997 and since then WREN has granted over £200m to more than 7,000 projects which benefit people living within 10 miles of a FCC Environment landfill site.
