The cardiac rehabilitation service which was introduced by NHS Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) last year, is already helping Bassetlaw people live better and more fulfilling lives.

The service is run by a team of professionals with a range of skills, including physiotherapists, nurses and occupational therapists, who have regular contact with hospital clinicians.

Based at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals, service staff see patients who have had a heart attack or had surgery for a heart related condition and agree with them a personal rehabilitation plan of goals they want to achieve, such as being able to carry out everyday tasks or returning to work.

The personalised programme, which typically lasts for 12 weeks, will include education and some exercise sessions, which can either take place at home or in local fitness centres.

Chris Ellingworth, clinical director for Clinical Therapies for Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “Having a heart attack can be very debilitating and frightening.”

“It’s great to be able to help someone take more control of their lives and regain independence.”
