The Priory Shopping Centre is set to welcome Crawshaws, a chain of award winning butchers famous for its ‘gold medal’ winning sausages, to the Bridge Place store in August.

The sudden closure of EA Bird & Sons devastated the town earlier this year when the company went into liquidation.

But Crawshaws, which specialises in the same quality meats, is hoping to pick up where the much-loved company left off.

Priory Shopping Centre manager, David Aunins, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Crawshaws to the centre and we’re delighted to see the heritage of a butchers store on Bridge Place be continued.

“I can’t wait for them to open so I can pop in at lunchtimes.

“I’m sure they’ll be a very popular choice”.

The opening date is yet to be announced but shop-fitting work has already begun. Centre management hope the new shop will be open in time for August bank holiday weekend so that shoppers can pick up some bank holiday BBQ meat.
