The choir was formed after an appeal in the Worksop Guardian by Richard and Norma Hylton-Mais, of Windsor Road, Carlton.

They were delighted with the response and now hold regular meetings at the old school room next to the Priory Church.

Richard said: “It’s been going well and we’re very pleased. We are hoping to do some events but we want to concentrate for now on the singing.”

Richard and Norma said they had got so much joy out of gospel music themselves that they wanted to share it with others.

Every year they hold a Jamaican-themed party called Nyamm and Jamm in their garden, which is based around singing and sharing food.

The choir is open to singers of all ages, and there are no auditions.
