Cactus societyannual show

The Sheffield Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society are hosting their annual show at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens next month.

The show will take place from 12-5pm on Saturday 1st June and 10am-4pm on Sunday 2nd June.

There will be free admission, plant sales and tombola.

The Sheffield branch of the BCSS started in 1946 and is one of over 90 branches located throughout the UK.

It aims to promote the study, conservation, propagation and cultivation of cacti and other succulent plants.

Membership of the BCSS is currently around 3,000 and includes the whole range from novice windowsill growers to experts.

Membership of the Society is open to all.

A society spokesman said anyone is welcome to attend the meetings, which are held at the Scout HQ on Trippet Lane.

“These plants have some of the plant world’s finest brilliantly coloured flowers and some are scented,” he said.

“There are often plants for sale at bargain prices, access to cuttings and seeds and occasional freebies. Please feel free to visit - you’ll get a warm welcome.”
