Businesses in Worksop and surrounding area to receive more than £28m from the government

In March, the Government announced that grants of £10,000 and £25,000 would be made available to eligible businesses, with around 2,000 businesses in Bassetlaw in line for the £10,000 grant and around 300 businesses qualifying for the £25,000 grant.

Bassetlaw District Council is responsible for distributing these grants and received the funding last week. Hundreds of businesses have already registered their details with the council and the first payments are expected to arrive in bank accounts early next week.

The grants available include:

*Small business grant funding of £10,000 for all businesses in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief;

*£10,000 grant per business in the Retail, Hospitality, and Leisure Sector with rateable value of £15k or less;

*Grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between 15,001 and 50,999.

In order for grants to be paid, the Council is asking all businesses that qualify to complete the Business Grant Fund Information Form and provide us with important information so that these funds can be distributed as soon as possible.

Councillor Simon Greaves, leader of Bassetlaw District Council, said: “These grants will be a vital lifeline for thousands of businesses in Bassetlaw and we have acted as quickly as possible to ensure that our business community gets this money in their bank accounts swiftly.”

“The strict measures imposed on the nation are extremely important in order to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus and I urge everyone to follow the Government’s instructions of ‘Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives’.

“The consequences of these instructions are far reaching, but I hope that these grants will enable our much valued businesses in Bassetlaw to make it through this incredibly challenging time, protect livelihoods and enable them to open their doors once we are able to leave our homes again.”

Businesses that rent their offices and premises from the Council will also receive a three-month period where rent payments will be deferred.
