Hutchinson was harshly sent off during the Tigers’ loss to Marine on Saturday, meaning he will now sit out the next three games.

Atherton said: “There’s nothing nasty in this but you have a position in a team and now he’s suspended, I want to try and solidify myself in that spot, but he’s a class player and I don’t mind if players like that come in because you want to root for them.

“It’s been a good battle between us for the spot. Obviously, healthy competition is good for a team, and you want to at least have two good players for each position because if something happens then you need a good back-up option.

“Regan is one of my best friends in football and I have been playing with him for quite a few years now and he brings great energy to the team.”
