Westwood confident ahead of 14th Masters

Worksop’s Lee Westwood says he is playing as well as ever on the eve of golf’s first major of the year, The Masters at the Augusta National Club.

The former world number one, whose best finish in the Masters was second in 2010, believes he is once again in with a chance.

His mum and dad have flown over to the United States this week, to support Lee, who is playing in his 14th Masters tournament at the fabled course in Georgia.

“I’m playing as well as I ever did,” Lee said on his website. “And can’t see why I should not be in with a chance again.”

Experts believe this year’s course at Augusta will favour those with a good long game, with favourites including a rejuvenated Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson.

Westwood is around 28/1 with bookmakers.
