Ten years since Pasky helped win a World Cup

The former Worksop man, currently the senior physio for England RFU, was part of the set-up as England beat Australia in the final on 22nd November 2003.

And a special event at the club’s Stubbing Lane base on Friday (22nd) will celebrate Pask’s impressive career.

Pask, a former teacher at Hayfield Comprehensive School near Doncaster, left Worksop in 1986 and married his wife Janice.

The couple lived in her home town of Northampton, where he went on to captain the town’s sevens squad – leading them all the way to Twickenham where they lost in a final.

A keen sportsman, he also competed in triathlons, and judo at a national level.

He went on to gain a Sports Science degree in 1981, and a Master’s in Physiotherapy and Sports Injury in 1999.

As a physiotherapist, ‘Pasky’ has been part of the England rugby set up since 1997, helping them to a 2003 Grand Slam and 2003 World Cup.

He has also toured with the British Lions, in 2005 in New Zealand, 2009 in South Africa and this year when the Lions returned from Australia victorious.

Not one to forget his roots, Pask recently visited Worksop Rugby Club and presented them with a signed Lions jersey, which will take pride of place in the club house.

A club spokesman told the Guardian: “He is a big supporter of Worksop Rugby Club and often donates prizes to auction off for club funds.”

“Last year he invited Worksop’s juniors to an England training session at Headingly, Leeds.”

“Worksop Rugby Club would like to wish Phil and his family all the best in the future and thank them for their continued support.”

Friday’s event is open to anyone who wants to celebrate ther 10th anniversary of England’s World Cup triumph, when Jonny Wilkinson landed the now iconic winning drop goal.

In the aftermath of the victory, Pask rang his friends at his old club to share his joy.

Speaking after returning home in 2003, he told the Guardian: ““The feeling after the game was amazing. There were grown men crying. I gave some of the lads in Worksop a ring straight after the final.”

“They were delighted with the victory. It was a well deserved win and a real shot in the arm for rugby in this country at all levels.”

“Without Worksop Rugby Club I wouldn’t be where I am now.”

Some of the victorious England squad have recorded video messages to be played on a big screen, including Martin Johnson, Neil Back and Matt Dawson, and the Dutch club twinned with Worksop have also sent a message.
