Respected angler

Alan, of Worksop, was well known and respected throughout the local angling community, a lifelong member of the Worksop & DAA and was for many years active with Woksop United.

He recently claimed two wins in the Bassetlaw Festival senior citizens competition which is held at Sandhill Lake annually which we know is no mean achievement.

Alan was just a few weeks away from his 82nd birthday and leaves his wife Julia, sons Stuart and Stephen and daughter Dawn.

His funeral takes place at Ollerton Crematorium on Monday 26th March at 11.15am.

Drinks and refreshments will be afterwards at the White Lion on Park Street and everyone is invited.

We have news from Ian Turner who is again running the annual Langold Lake Spring League and open matches.

The league will run from Sunday 1st April until Sunday 10th June with a 9 am draw at the café.

Fishing takes place between 10am and 4pm.

The league itself will consist of 11 matches on consecutive Sundays with the best eight counting.

The cost is a one off £10 signing on fee to join the league and £15.00 all in on the day, of which £3 will be pegging fees and the rest to be paid out.

However if you are unable to commit to joining the league you can still fish the matches on the day which will just cost you the £15 all in.

CLUB RESULTS

THE Tuesday Cub held a knock-up on the main lake at Ranskill where Billy Richardson won with a silverfish net of 40lb 2oz taken on pole and pellet on peg 27.

Pete Scott claimed the runners-up position on peg 26 with 34lb 11oz caught on pole and worm with Keith Walters a close third on peg 33 with a net of skimmers weighing 33lb 13oz on pole fished pellet.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

AT the Riverside complex the warmer weather saw an increase in match weights last week.

In Tuesday’s event Pete Ware won with 25lb 2oz taken on pole and pellet from peg 30 with John Bleakley second employing bomb fished meat from peg 34 for 15lb 2oz.

On Wednesday Bleak won from peg 43 with 35lb 3oz on bomb fished meat to finish ahead of Dave Evans on peg 14 with 34lb 2oz taken on waggler fished pellet.

The weights were up on Friday as Dave Evans again fished pellet on the waggler for an impressive 73lb 15oz ahead of Bleak and John Moore who took 52lb 14oz and 19lb 1oz respectively.

On Saturday Terry Pixley took the win from peg 6 fishing bomb and meat for 33lb 13oz, with Pete Ware in second on peg 36 with 30lb 2oz.

With the clocks going forward Bleak would like us to let you know that the fishery will be open until dusk.

At Lodge Farm Tuesday’s event on the lily pond saw Andy Bailey pole fish pellet on peg 25 for a winning net of 55lb, ahead of Dave Evans who waggler fished corn for 53lb 6oz from peg 68.

Wednesday’s veterans on the field pond was won by Reg Turner who also waggler fished corn on peg 2 for 57lb 14oz, beating Keith Morris who used the same method on peg 3 for 46lb.

Thursday’s competiton on the signal pond saw John Gunn triumph with 37lb 7oz on peg 6 pole fishing caster, and Saturdays match on the field pond was won by Marc Foy on peg 1 who fished the pellet waggler for 54lb 3oz.

At Lakeside Fishery at Ranskill Les Richmond won Wednesday’s open pole fishing caster on peg 10 for an ide net of 58lb 3oz.

Saturdays team of four event saw Steve Taylor take nine carp on peg 29a on bomb fished bread to put together a winning net of 78lb 2oz.

On Sunday it was the second round of the R&R Spring League where Andrew Morley fished the biscuit on peg 30 for 11 carp weighing 93lb 4oz.

On the carp lake Tony Griffiths landed two specimens on peg 5 on his grange boilies which included a common of 26lb 4oz and a leather of 19lb 4oz.

Over on the trout lake father and son Jack and John Dawson cast their buzzers and cats whiskers on a floating line to account for 46 fish to 8lb.
