Luke Fletcher confident Notts have got what it takes to succeed this season

The 32-year-old seamer is entering his 14th season as a professional at Trent Bridge and admits he is just as excited as ever for the new campaign.

“Every year that’s gone by, everyone in the squad has developed individually in their own way,” he told the Notts club website.

“We’ve gelled together nicely, with the senior players helping the younger ones, and we're ready to get going again and put some results on the board."

Notts enter 2021 as reigning Vitality Blast champions, with Fletcher's contributions to that victory including a career-best five-wicket haul against Yorkshire in the group stages.

Ahead of the start of their defence in June, the seamer points to the physical and mental strength of the Outlaws' roster as key to their success.

“The T20 squad is unbelievable, and that’s underlined by the fact that even the players who aren’t getting in the starting eleven are really talented," he said.

“And a massive part of T20 cricket is being able to perform under pressure. We've shown we can do that really well too.”

The Green and Golds secured their second Blast crown in the absence of the Notts faithful - part of a season-long period of behind-closed-doors cricket.

With the prospect of supporters returning to venues this summer, Fletcher is relishing the chance to feed off the Trent Bridge atmosphere in all formats.

“Both the four-day games and the T20s get good atmospheres - and there's nothing like playing on a Friday night at Trent Bridge," he said.

“Any time you get support from the local community it's amazing, and it gives the players a big lift.”

Fans will be able to follow matches on the BBC following a new deal with the ECB.

The four-year deal will provide ball-by-ball commentary of every men’s First Class and List A cricket match played in England and Wales, covering the LV= Insurance County Championship, the Royal London Cup and the Vitality Blast.

The deal will see some 3,100 days of cricket broadcast on the BBC’s network of local radio stations.
