Whitehouse, who was dubbed as a goalscoring left-back in his playing days with Pontefract Collieries, also believes that the positive cohesion of the squad has been integral to the success that Craig Parry brought to the Colls – this included back-to-back promotions, as well as a play-off final and being on the cusp of promotion before the campaign was suspended.

“The main reason we have come to the club is to succeed,” stated Whitehouse. “Make no mistake about it, our briefing is to win the league and that is what we are going to set our stall out to do.

“To do that, we need to go in hard at training with fitness, but we also need to create a team which works for each other.

“Players who have played under Paz [Craig Parry] and Rousey [Craig Rouse] will know exactly what I mean by that, meaning that every player will fight for each other and that can be the difference between winning and losing.

“We all have a great relationship with the players in the squad and they all know that if they need anything, then we are all approachable, so this again helps balance the management team and helps to continue that winning mentality that we have had for the past four seasons.”

Whitehouse will also head up the squad’s training programme in terms of fitness for next season.

The former Pontefract captain disclosed that he and head coach Luke Jeffs, will push the squad hard in order to get them ready for whenever the 2020/21 season gets underway.

Whitehouse said: “We like to attack from the front which, as you may know, gives you three levels of stability, but off the back of that, it allows your players to be really fit and that is where myself and Luke come in – in terms of making sure the players are fit both physically and mentally to cope with the demands of playing for Worksop Town.

“From my perspective, pre-season is going to be the hardest it has ever been in terms of fitness and conditioning, primarily because of the time difference between when the season ended and when it is likely to begin once it is safe to do so.”
