Worksop Town appoint Shirebrook boss Shaw

Worksop Town have confirmed the appointment of former player Mark Shaw as first team boss.

Shaw, currently in charge of NCEL Division One side Shirebrook, has been given a two-year contract at Sandy Lane by club owner Jason Clark.

In a statement released this morning, Clark revealed he was impressed by Shaw’s ability to work within a club’s resources and said the new man would be tasked with placing a greater emphasis on youth development.

Clark said: “Without the surety of a permanent home the football club must take a more sustainable long term financial view.”

“In selecting a new management team the club had to consider the ability to maximise the considerable talent in the youth set-up.”

“This has been a long-standing goal of the club to balance experience with youth, however in recent seasons finances have been made available which reduced the reliance on youth, it is imperative that this is changed.”

“It is also important to ensure we have someone who has detailed knowledge of local players.”

“The playing budget has been reduced for the coming season, however it still remains competitive.”

“Mark’s time at Sheffield FC showed he had the ability to build a competitive team with limited budget that played attractive football.”

“In order to ensure stability and to give Mark time to develop the club as a whole he has been offered a 2 year contract.”

Shaw counts Sutton Town AFC, Lincoln United and Retford United among the former clubs on his managerial CV, and as a player featured for Worksop Town, Forest Green Rovers, Tamworth, Alfreton Town and Matlock Town.
