Trinity left Blue after play-off final

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity’s promotion dreams came to an end yesterday, as they lost 1-0 to Nuneaton in the Blue Square North play-off final on the Northolme.

The Blues went behind early in the first half to an Andy Brown header after Kevin Sandwith had conceded a free-kick on the left hand side of the box.

In front of a capacity crowd the visitors sat back and defended their lead until full-time, and restricted Trinity to a couple of half chances.

Ryan Kendall had a shot partially deflected off target in the first half, while a defender’s boot helped substitute Paul Connor’s second half effort go past the post from 12 yards.

The Blues, who have never been promoted in 139 years, will have to wait until next season to mount another charge for Conference Premier status.
