Tough week for the Town

The Phoenix Park side were beaten 3-0 at home by AFC Emley on Saturday, and followed that with a 6-1 thrashing by Albion Sports in midweek.

On Saturday, Steve Toyne’s side got off to the worst start, the defence standing flat footed to let Scott Holt run through and pick his spot to beat Luke Hands, with just four minutes gone.

Things got worse when they missed a glorious chance to level.

Daniel McKenzie was brought down with a rash challenge on 21 minutes in the box,

Liam Cartledge stepped up confidently, but saw his spot-kick well saved.

The start to the second half mirrored the first few minutes of the match, as four minutes after the restart Holt ran through again, this time squaring for David Heagney to find the net.

With time running out Emley went close again with a 25-yard effort that was pushed round the post for a corner.

And from the resulting set-piece, Sean Hazelden placed his shot just under the crossbar to round off the victory for the visitors.

Back at Phoenix Park on Tuesday night, Town suffered an even more comprehensive beating, at the hands of seventh placed Albion Sports.

The defeat stemmed from an horrendous three minute spell in the opening period.

Albion Sports netted in the fourth, fifth and sixth minutes through Andrew Bailey and an Alex Cusack brace to take control.

It was all over before the break, as Joe Brown scored twice to make it 5-0 to the visitors.

Bailey’s second four minutes after half-time rubbed salt into the wounds, and Daniel McKenzie’s 72nd minute goal was scant consolation for Dinnington.

Toyne’s side have a reprieve from league fixtures on Saturday as they host Grimsby Borough in the FA Vase, before another home game on Tuesday night against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
