There’s only one Liam Cartledge...

WOULD the real Liam Cartledge please stand up.

Dinnington Town players are pictured celebrating the newest member of the exclusive ‘400’ club, on Wednesday night at Eccleshill.

Cartledge made his 400th appearance, to join Andy Sykes in a remarkable landmark.

His team-mates put together a tongue-in-cheek tribute, donning Cartledge masks and putting together a T-shirt to mark the occasion.

The event was dampened somewhat by a 4-0 defeat in NCEL Division One action, but Steve Toyne paid his own glowing tribute to his two stalwarts, Cartledge and Sykes.

“It’s a very, very rare occasion at this level,” said the manager.

“Especially when you don’t pay players, because a lot of clubs can pay players to keep them loyal.”

“But I can’t speak highly enough of these two, they’re marvellous servants to the club and it’s a wonderful achievement.”

Cartledge has scored an impressive 262 goals in his time with Dinnington Town, and club skipper Sykes said he was delighted to welcome him to the 400 appearances club.

“It was a fantastic night, despite the result, everyone got into the spirit of it and I think the lads have all got a lot of respect for Liam and what he’s achieved,” Sykes told the Guardian. “It’s not only rare that you get two players achieve it at one non league club, but we both achieved it away at Eccleshill United, it’s quite incredible really.”

The club are hoping to make a presentation to Cartledge to mark his fourth ton of appearances, with representatives from the league invited to attend when they host Knaresborough Town next Tuesday night.
