There’s a lot to look forward to

Rotherham United can be pleased with their season so far as 2011 comes to a close.

As with any other year, and season, there have been highs and lows but the club sit just outside the play-offs as we head into 2012.

Despite the team not winning for 10 games in a row during the earlier part of the season, with only 22 games played, being sat 11th in the table shows the squad has a quality in-depth.

Being three points away from the bottom of the play-offs means one good win for the team can get them straight back into contention with the other teams around them.

What could be a thorn in the side of any play-off push for Andy Scott’s men is their poor goal difference.

The side’s sloppy defending has left them with only a couple of goals to the positive side of the zero mark whereas all the teams around them boast much higher figures.

Goals tend to come easily for the Millers and they will always score them they just need to ensure the men at the back do their job in keeping the opposition out.

Tonight they face a tough away trip to second placed Cheltenham Town.

A win for the Millers tonight would be the perfect start to the new year, pushing them into a place where they can move forward and challenge to be one of the top teams in the division.

Cheltenham won’t make it easy for the visitors though as they haven’t won in their last two games so will be out to set the record straight and keep their place in the top three.

For the club there is a lot to look forward to, with the move to the new stadium, during the next 12 months.

The icing on the cake would be for them to make it into the play-offs come the end of the season.

Only a positive attitude from all involved will make this happen but it is doable for a club hoping to have a bright future.
