Nottingham Forest legends to be honoured at special race day

Nottingham Forest football ‘Legends’ from over half a century are to be celebrated at a momentous evening race meeting at Nottingham Racecourse this summer.

City Ground stars from the 50s onwards will be at Colwick Park for the Nottingham Forest ‘Legends’ Raceday.

The event is the brainchild of the racecourse’s new general manager James Knox and means that racing and football fans can see some of the men who graced stadiums in Britain and overseas during Nottingham Forest’s halcyon days.

The six ‘Legends’ after whom each of the races will be named on Monday 15th June are:

Jeff Whitefoot – now aged 81, the only surviving member of the 1959 FA Cup winning team.

Ian Storey-Moore - 60s and 70s Forest star and England international.

Kenny Burns – Scottish international who was a member of the League Championship-winning team of 1978 and the European Cup-winning teams of 1979 and 1980;

Gary Birtles - member of the European Cup-winning teams and England international.

John Robertson – Scottish international who was a member of the League Championship-winning team of 1978 and the European Cup-winning teams – and scorer of the only goal in the 1980 final;

Des Walker - 80s, 90s and 2000s star defender who played 59 times for England.

Mr Knox, General Manager of Nottingham Racecourse, said:”This will be a fun evening where our two sports are brought together in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

“The six races will be named after different Forest ‘Legends’ from the last 50 years. We are looking forward to great night out for everyone – the ‘Legends’, sponsors, Reds supporters and regular race-goers.”

Tickets for the evening bought by the end of the current football season start at just £10 for over 18s (accompanied children are admitted free of charge) and are on sale now by calling 0844 579 3011 or going online at www.nottinghamracecourse.co.uk and using promo code ‘LEGENDS’ On-the-day prices are from £15.00.
