Former Boston keeper Bastock joins Tigers

The 42-year-old was released by Boston United in the Conference North at the end of last season, and agreed on a move to Tigers last night.

Boss Simon Clark admitted he had compromised on the height he had originally wanted from his custodian, but insists Bastock’s aggression more than makes up for any perceived lack of stature.

“I’ve seen him play in the league above, I’ve spoken to five managers about him and they all said he’s in the top four keepers in that league,” Clark said.

“He’s aggressive, comes off his line, he’s a great kicker, an organiser and a shot stopper – and he’s another leader, a character.”

“He’s not 6ft 3ins but he plays like he is, it’s a really pleasing signing.”

Bastock played nearly 700 games for the Pilgrims, and also had spells with Kettering and St Albans City.

Another player committing to Tigers for next year is winger Lee Beeson.

The youngster, who had a patchy spell of form on loan from Corby last season, has signed a year’s contract and Clark is expecting goals from him.

“He has something to prove, he did okay last year but he needs a pre-season with me and a run at a season and I’ve bet the chairman he will score a dozen before Christmas.”

More signings are possible this weekend, with Clark speaking to a midfielder who has already featured for the club and two more defenders.
