The Blues, who lost Marc Newsham and Danny Forrest to injury in last night’s Lincolnshire Senior Cup tie, asked for supporters to be understanding.

A statement said: “The directors are sorry for fans who have been looking forward to the game, but feel it would not be sensible when considering the season is due to start on Saturday, August 8.”

For Worksop however it’s a bitter blow.

As tenants at Sandy Lane they only had three home friendlies arranged this summer, and now they’re looking to replace Trinity with another club.

Boss Mark Shaw said: “It’s disappointing, we turned down other clubs so we could have a derby game.

“If we get 300 people coming to a friendly, that’s money we need.

“We’re all working hard to try and find someone to fill in on Saturday.”

Mansfield Town were the first visitors to Sandy Lane to face Worksop Town in pre-season, and boss Adam Murray spoke in glowing terms about the hosts and the quality of the pitch.

“I thought Worksop were exceptional to be honest.

“The way they play and the energy they showed caused us plenty of problems.

“They weren’t scared to come and press us high and they put us under a lot of pressure,

“I always know what Mark’s teams are going to be like and as I say, they put us under a lot of pressure.

“His teams are always going to get it down and play, so credit to him.

“There won’t be many teams we come up against in League Two that try and play that much football.”
