Centurion’s disappointment over Worksop exit

The former Huddersfield reserves captain has signed for Farsley, a club he played for earlier in his career.

Although he told the Guardian he will take fond memories away from Worksop, and wishes the club well, he admits to disappointment over the nature of his exit.

The 27-year-old said that when the season ended, leaving Sandy Lane was not in his thoughts.

“It was never my intention to move on,” he said.

“I’ve always enjoyed being at Worksop.”

“As far as I was aware, our phone numbers were passed on to the new manager Mark Shaw and we thought we would be getting a call.”

“Obviously the likes of Metts and Dents were contacted, but I haven’t had any contact with the club.”

“It’s disappointing because I had three good years at Worksop, it’s a really good club and I always had a good relationship with the fans.”

“It would have been nice to have been told I wasn’t being kept on.”

“After a few weeks I decided to sort myself out and signed for Farsley.”

The structural engineer will be playing for the same management team who brought him to Farsley previously, and although he’s looking forward to a new challenge, he took time to reflect on his Worksop highlights.

“Some of the performances last season, beating Blyth 8-2, the win at Hednesford and scoring that goal in that game was one of my highlights.”

“Lifting the cup at Hillsborough last season was a highlight too.”

“I really enjoyed my time there, it’s a shame that I had to go elsewhere, but it happens in football and I hope Worksop have a good season.”

Young joins fellow 2012/13 Tigers Stuart Ludlam and Ryan Clarke in expressing discontent at a lack of communication from the club this summer.

But Worksop Town boss Shaw said players had to show their desire to play for the club.

He told the Guardian last week: “If they really want to play for Worksop, all they have to do is pick up the phone.”
