Blues still need more new faces

Michael Emery, Josh Lacey and Josh Williams have all signed for the club for the coming season, with local players Greg Andrews and Adam Martin expected to sign forms in the coming days.

But the Trinity boss says that the club will be looking into potential loan signings over the weeks leading up to the Skrill North season.

“We have a group of 12 or 13 players that we’ve added the new signings to, which gives us a good core for the season ahead.”

“Darryn (Stamp) and I have been looking at players to potentially bring in, and we’ll also be looking at loan players closer to the season.”

“Whatever players we bring in have to be right for Gainsborough Trinity.”

Like most non-league sides, Trinity have played a host of trialists in their pre-season friendlies, and whilst some players have impressed enough to earn a place in Housham’s squad, the Blues’ boss has revealed his disappointment in the overall standard of players available.

“We saw a lot of players that have good technical ability in training, but weren’t able to show it in games where it matters.”

“Most of those that we saw were nowhere near ready for adult football.”

Two players that did impress the former Scunthorpe United man were Andrews and Martin, who were both playing football at local league level last season.

“I’m proud to be able to offer Greg and Adam a chance with the club. As a local man myself, it’s great to be able to give them the opportunity.”

“Our budget is well publicised, so we can’t go out and buy an extensive squad like we have in previous years.”

“We’ve had to look for bargains, and these two fit the bill.”

“But make no bones about it, they’ve more than held their own in pre-season and have earned their right to play for the club.”
